Clay Residence is a contemporary architectural concept that reinterprets tropical living through a refined balance of raw materiality, minimalism, and spatial harmony. Designed in 2024 by SHOVK in collaboration with 19 Būro, the project is located in Bali, Indonesia, and spans approximately 2200 square meters. The residence goes beyond being just a physical structure, presenting itself as a complete sensory experience shaped by texture, light, and its natural surroundings.

The design draws strong inspiration from the essence of clay as a material, symbolizing warmth, grounding, and authenticity. This influence is visible throughout the architecture, where earthy tones, tactile surfaces, and natural finishes create a sense of calm and connection. Every space is carefully composed to evoke a feeling of being rooted in the environment while still maintaining a clean and contemporary aesthetic.

Rather than relying on highly polished or artificial elements, the residence celebrates imperfections and natural variations. Textures, shadows, and subtle irregularities become defining features of the design, adding depth and character to the overall space. This approach allows the home to feel more human, organic, and emotionally engaging, rather than overly controlled or sterile.

At its core, the project follows the philosophy of “returning to the roots,” where simplicity and honesty in design take priority. The architecture embraces raw materials and essential forms, creating a timeless quality that does not depend on trends. The balance between minimalism and depth ensures that the space feels both visually refined and experientially rich.
